I am the founder of Digital-Football.com and digital marketing consultancy acuity in the UK. I started Digital-Football.com in 2010 just as the football clubs were first starting to dip their toes into using digital technologies like Social Media and mobile apps. I started the site to document the rise of clubs and players in the industry, seeing that there was a huge opportunity to use the technology to communicate and engage with fans, and I was right. Players started circumventing press teams and using Twitter to go straight to the fans. Clubs started campaigning and selling tickets across Facebook. Sponsors and brands started experimenting with technology as a way to try monetize audiences.
Since then, the site has evolved from being a blog into it’s own consultancy business. We’ve worked not just with football clubs and athletes, but with a wider variety of sports to help them do more with digital. Digital-Football is now one of the most recognised media outlets for digital and sport and continues to be a thought leader in the industry.
With coverage on radio, TV and press worldwide, we are noted for our commentary and guidance, with Mashable.com calling us,
“a leading source on the intersection between English soccer and social media” – Mashable.com
Outside of digital-football.com, I have been involved in other ventures:
In October 2016, I left my senior agency role with one of the UK’s largest and most successful agencies to start my own firm. As a digital marketing start-up, acuity digital, differs from competitors in that we not only provide actionable insight, but have a fluid offering to our clients. A number of clients struggle to either employ someone (with all the costs and risk tied down to an employment contract) but equally don’t want to pay in excess of £8k every month to an agency. acuity fills the gap in between and allows us to not only provide clients services and resource, but help them transform their business and build their own team, processes and foundation for digital.
Agency life – twentysix, Blueclaw, Freestyle Interactive
As mentioned, before acuity, I worked as Senior Account Director at UK leading digital agency twentysix. Before this I was a Head of Social & Content at Blueclaw and before that, Social Community Manager at Freestyle Interactive. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some amazing clients, athletes and brands including:
- Lloyds Banking Group
- Fortnum & Mason
- Graham & Brown
- Mercedes Benz Northside
- Celtic FC
- Tottenham Hotspur FC
- Queen’s Park Rangers FC
- Birmingham City FC
- Bolton Wanderers FC
- Norwich City FC
- Warrington Wolves
- Dame Kelly Holmes Trust
During my time at Blueclaw I devised and lead a new start-up called Social Pundit. This award winning tool won the Most Innovative use of Technology in Football at the 2013 Football Business Awards and was recognised worldwide as the industry’s first Social Media real-time monitoring tool for Sport and Athletes. A simple concept, our platform monitored sports athletes social media accounts and constantly cross referenced their content vs. our database. If a player tweeted something potentially controversial, our tool alerted the club and player in real-time and recorded the severity, reach and content of the tweet. The platform also helped clubs analyse their own Social Media campaigns to measure return-on-investment and reach.
