Man City first EPL club to become a commercial partner with YouTube

Manchester City yet again show their Social Media credentials this week after it has been annouced that the Social superpower and football club are the first EPL club to partner YouTube. Currently, only Man City and Chelsea have a YouTube presence – and we’ve spoken recently about why City’s YouTube channel and video content works so well.

The Drum reported today that ‘the deal will allow the club to control it’s right-owned, or club created videos, as well as manage advertising around its content’. Richard Ayers, Head of Digital at the Mancunian club said to the The Drum,

“Manchester City is having a phenomenal year of growth and development online. Our goal is to deliver a market leading experience for fans in terms of online video.  That means delivering the great content we make to where the audience is – ie on YouTube. This deal is the first move in laying the foundations of our syndication strategy and is part of a series of deals to expand our online capabilities.”

City have been at the forefront of all football social media for several months now, and this is another step in the right direction – utilising an open platform like YouTube that allows users to easily share content and foster a community.
